Snake Oil

Snake Oil
Hey all, been trying to regularly update my work week by week. I just finished this piece for my portfolio class. It wasn't very successful in achieving what I wanted narratively beyond the technical aspects. I'm happy that I got to play with more digital overlays, and composition referencing asian aesthetics. But a complete conceptual overhaul is in order and revisions will be posted shortly! But I hope you enjoy in the meantime.

Lucid Dreaming

Lucid Dreaming
This is a personal piece that I created by painting 3 layers separately. I experimented with Yupo paper textures overlaying the background and figure and I'm really enamored with it. I'm not sure if I will be for long but I'm excited for the possibilities that this piece may lead to.
I was inspired by a radio interview (Fresh Air) with Guillermo del Toro about Pan's Labyrinth and in it he mentions 'lucid dreaming' a condition in which you awake in your dream without realizing you're still asleep. This idea of a waking dream, an endless pattern of surreal dreams has become my obsession.

Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc
Created in Donato Giancola's science fiction and fantasy genre class this is my depiction of Joan of Arc were that she was a cyborg. I had a lot of fun pushing the concentration of the darks and lights to certain areas of the pictures. It was also my first time dealing with armor and wires.

Insanity 2

Insanity Breaks then Cracked Reflection
This is the finished final silkscreen of my project that I posted during its making. I worked out a lot of visual components by doing many variations of the print and while I like a lot of them for other reasons, I'm very happy with this one in particular.
Words by artist Chris Turalski. Created in David Sandlin's printmaking class.

Girl on Fire

Girl on Fire
A portfolio piece for the album review section of Rolling Stone magazine. My artist was Alicia Keys and her new album Girl on Fire. Not sure if I quite captured her, and her skin tone came out lighter than I wanted. But I'm interested in the concept, so I'll probably attempt another attempt at it.

Obsession

Obsession
This was another portfolio assignment where we had to tackle our obsession. I couldn't decipher any one particular obsession besides my perfectionism. And I realized that I'm obsessed with my ideal of perfection, and in striving for that I often lose sight of the bigger picture.

gluttony and margaritas

Piece for my portfolio class with Chris Buzelli, we were given the assignment of one of the seven Deadly Sins and then we were given a random noun by one of our classmates. My two words were Gluttony and Margaritas. This is my depiction of that word play.
I'm not sure if I'm totally satisfied with the piece, after making it I realized he looked an awful lot like the chiquita banana lady.
